My New Swiss Army Knife of Gadgets

This week I broke down and replaced my land line with what I am finding to be THE Swiss Army Knife of all gadgets, the iPhone 4S. I am amazed that so many formerly separate gadgets can now be found in one tiny, shiny package!  Anyone who knows me realizes I probably didn’t get this for its primary function, a phone.  I just don’t talk on the phone that much.  But I do love to take pictures and surprisingly enough, the camera on this phone is amazing!  So too are the myriad of photography apps that allow you to turn a run-of-the-mill snap into a piece of groovy art.  I personally love Instagram, an app and a social network for sharing all of your arty, hipster creations across the internet of things instantly. The ability to take a snap, edit and post shots on the fly has made me slightly giddy, as my poor, patient Facebook friends have found (sorry too for the alliteration kick 🙂 ).  Trust me, I will move past this super-snapping-and-sharing shortly.  The alliteration thing, not so much…I love the feeling that these shots give me more than the subject they portray.  I’m instantly transported back to my halcyon 70’s childhood where everything seem to have a happy, glowing tinge. Or maybe that was just the function of the Polaroid camera! Sun flares are cool again. Or perhaps they are just cool now…

Here’s a collage of some of my artsy Instagram shots from this week.  If you would like to see more, please visit my photo website where I’ve created a gallery just for iPhonetography.  Signed, Inspectress Gadget.

  1. Hey, Patti — nice post! I’m right there with you when it comes to being transported back to the easy childhood days when looking at photos through Instagram filters. I think of a Polaroid or Disc camera nearly every time I browse through the app. I wrote about some tips over at http://wp.me/p1UhOK-26 if you’re interested. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Keep Instagramming!

  2. Richard, thanks for your note here and for your Instagram tips! They are relevant, funny, and I will start employing them immediately! Plus, I really enjoyed your snaps on Instagram; they are art!
