Those Who Look For Beauty Will Find It – Bill Cunningham
I just got back from seeing a matinée that still has me thinking. You cannot say that about a lot of the movies we go to see these days. But today’s screening was quite different. I had the pleasure to see the documentary, Bill Cunningham New York. It is a story about a photographer and about New York, so I thought, what’s not to love??? I went to the movie intrigued but left feeling that I just got to spend time with a wonderful human being who loves life, his work, and delights in the simple beauty that life can bring if you remember to look for it. Bill Cunningham is a New York icon who has managed to document not only fashion trends but the social milieu that drives them in one of the most provocative cities in the world. He is quick to point out, it is not about fashion but the way clothes define identity. Quite simply, he has an eye for fabulous.
If I haven’t yet piqued your interest to see this movie, I’m going to send you to Roger Ebert who piqued mine with this thoughtful review. I agree with Ebert whole-heartedly when he writes “This movie made me happy each moment I was watching it.” And I also hope you enjoy my definition of beauty above – Long Beach, Tofino, at sunset. Neither the surfers nor I wanted to leave the beach on this stunning night. For more shots of Long Beach, please join me over at my photo website. Have a great rest of your long weekend everyone!
