“West Virginia.  Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.” – JD.  I can’t get this song out of my head as I post this snap, taken by my sister Jenny out the Jeep window, on our last day driving home from Florida.  We good ole Canadian gals felt our spirits rise as we left the flat expanse of North Carolina and entered the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia that last cold morning.  As the sun rose pink in the east, we wound our way up through the mountains, welcomed by a fresh dump of snow.  Cue the Christmas playlist on the Ipod.  We were coming home.

Now as I plan to flee the city for Christmas back home in a few days, I think back on that beautiful drive home and am grateful for my good fortune.  The open road is freedom!

Take me home country roads.”

  1. Oh, how I miss John Denver. The harmonies of his music, the poetry of his lyrics, the way he looked more like a Muppet than any other human before or since…
I bought a JD Christmas album (“Rocky Mountain Christmas” from 1975) this year. All the old favorites and a few unmistakably JD tunes, plus “Please, Daddy (Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas)”. Classic. Might be one of the CDs that lives in my car all year long. 🙂
Great seeing you on Saturday, Miss P. Your photos are now framed and ready for gifting!
    Miss you lots!!
